Over last two years, since I started in this business, I came across many websites, individuals and companies that are promoting their skills in building an app. I even had a bad experience in my beginnings when I wanted to outsource some of the development to another company. By this mistake and many others I have learned valuable lessons about building an apps for different platforms.
So here are is truth about different marketing lines, that I have learned the hard way:
1. We have done hundreds of projects and we are the best because of it
This doesn’t guarantee that your project will be well done. Every company can get to point where they do too much and have to start cutting corners to make deadlines. I don’t say that every company is like that, but this argument alone does not guarantee anything. Be sure that you use their creations a bit, and ask them how long that takes to create and polish.
2. We provide best price / value ratio
This argument is completely meaningless. How do you measure it? What does it say? For me I think it means that they do the job in approximately same time and for same money as everybody else. There is absolutely no way how to compare individuals or companies. Closest thing is to compare weekly rate per developer but this also does not guarantee anything, because everybody works at different speed.
3. We can do everything, you’ll get it all in one package
This is very good marketing argument, but also complete lie. At current speed of evolution of technologies it is not possible to know everything, so if they do everything there is big chance that the result will be mediocre at the best. The only way is to do this is to have several teams each specializing for different area, but there are very few companies that can really do that and not even them can do truly everything.
I hope that this blog helped you a bit, that you won’t be easily fooled and you will be able to have better judgment when outsourcing as I had when I was starting in this area.
